There is, thankfully, a lot more to the camera setups within the upcoming Apple iPhone 18 Pro duo and the iPhone 20 than variable aperture bragging rights, as per the latest tidbits from a notable Weibo-based tipster (image source: Vovalenard).
We reported a few days back that Apple was experimenting with a 200MP camera sensor, possibly for the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, enabling near-lossless cropping (to a certain extent) in the process.
Now, the Weibo-based tipster, Digital Chat Station, has come forward with a lot more details related to Apple’s planned camera setups for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 20:
Of these, we already know that the variable aperture camera has already entered production, with production divided between Largan and Sunny Optical.
Of course, there is a possibility that Apple might not introduce all of these camera-related bells and whistles within the iPhone 18 Pro duo, with Digital Chat Station taking pains to add the qualifier:
“The iPhone 18 Pro series will likely be the first to feature a variable aperture, and if evaluations go smoothly, the remaining technologies will probably be updated with each generation, including the slightly curved aperture.”
Such a staggered launch cadence makes sense, especially as Apple would presumably want to preserve a number of exclusive features for the upcoming 20th anniversary iPhone 20 (due in 2027).
