The Apple Wallet will allow users to create passes in iOS 27, taking QR passes from physical passes to create digital versions.
The Apple Wallet can be used to handle credit and debit cards, store cards, digital keys, and digital passes from third-party apps. However, not everyone who provides users with passes does so while supporting the Apple Wallet.
In iOS 27, that will change, as Bloomberg reports that Apple will be adding a pass-building tool. People familiar with the feature explain that users can generate a custom pass for Apple Wallet from a QR code.
The intention is for it to be used by apps that use QR codes, but don’t have the all-important Apple Wallet pass support.
To use the tool, users can add a card as usual using the plus symbol, and then use a new prompt. The prompt states it can be used to “create passes for tickets, memberships, gift cards, and more.”
The process can create a pass from scratch, or by capturing an image of a QR code using the camera. They are then presented with customization tools, including various styles, images, colors, and text fields.
Three templates will be provided with Standard passes defaulting to orange. Membership passes will be set to blue initially, while purple will be used for event passes.
This is not the first time that the idea of custom passes has been floated about iOS 27. It previously appeared in a code leak from April 16, alongside new Visual Intelligence features.
