Android Canary 2605 brings the blur to Pixel system UI

Google today released Android Canary 2605, with this preview build adding much more blur to the system UI on Pixel devices.

ZP11.260417.009 with the May 2026 security patch is available for the Pixel 10a, Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold, Pixel 9a, Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold, Pixel 8a, Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, Pixel 7a, Pixel 7 Pro, Pixel 7, Pixel 6a, Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6, Pixel Fold, and Pixel Tablet. As always, “Canary builds are highly experimental and are NOT recommended for general use.”

System blur

Last year, Android 16 QPR1 introduced blur to Notifications and Quick Settings. As of Android 17 Beta 4, the widget picker is the only element with more system blur.

Android Canary 2605 now adds it to the pill-shaped container of the volume slider. This translucency allows you to see more of your homescreen or the application underneath it.

Opening the full volume panel is another example of this blurred background.

Then there’s the power menu (which also blurs the background), and when you long-press on the Pixel Launcher for Wallpaper & style, Widgets, Apps list, and Home settings.
