The AGM G3 Pro is a classic rugged smartphone that is clearly designed for maximum durability rather than style or elegance. It feels very solidly built and is MIL-STD-810H certified, offering protection against drops from up to 1.5 meters, as well as being dust- and water-resistant. It also withstands temperatures ranging from -20 °C to +60 °C, making it suitable for demanding outdoor and work applications.
Notable features include the extremely bright camping light on the back and the integrated thermal imaging camera. This camera can both identify individual measurement points and automatically detect the hottest and coldest areas in the image. In practice, however, the temperature readings are only approximately accurate and are usually slightly higher than reference measurements. The device is complemented by a programmable function key and an integrated FM radio receiver.
Another positive feature is the microSD slot in the hybrid slot, which allows for either two SIM cards or one SIM plus memory expansion. However, it lacks DRM certification, which may limit high-quality streaming on some services. In terms of connectivity, the device is rather average: It supports only single-band GNSS, which reduces location accuracy, as well as Wi-Fi 5 with limited performance. Voice quality is solid, though without effective noise cancellation. The vibration motor also feels less high-quality than expected.
Camera quality is one of the biggest weaknesses. The front camera delivers acceptable results, but the images appear overly sharp. The rear cameras are a major disappointment, with poor detail, no stabilization, and purely digital zoom. Videos can only be recorded at 30 FPS. The TFT-LCD display is sufficiently bright, but it can’t compete with OLED panels and has a rather cool color tone. Under the hood is a MediaTek Dimensity 7300, which offers solid everyday performance but doesn’t go beyond the mid-range. On the other hand, the extremely loud speaker and long battery life—thanks to the large battery—are very strong points. However, according to the manufacturer, the battery is only designed for around 800 charge cycles, which may limit its long-term durability.
The AGM G3 Pro (buy here on Amazon) is thus a specialized outdoor device focused on ruggedness, battery life, and thermal imaging technology, which makes significant compromises in terms of camera, multimedia, and modern features.
As a child I was fascinated by my Commodore 16, and this sparked my enthusiasm for computers. Using my first modem, I surfed the BTX videotext system and later the World Wide Web. I have always been captivated by the latest technologies, and this is especially true for mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. I’ve been part of the Notebookcheck team since 2013 and have also on occasion written for Notebookinfo.de, and I’m looking forward to testing new innovations for our readers. I like to spend my spare time indulging in photography and barbecues and being with my family.
