Here’s the thing about me—I like to dress well, but I have to be comfortable. So, I don’t typically wear overly constricting skinny jeans or tight-fitting bodycon dresses (so 2000s!). And, though it’s taken me a while to perfect this style-meets-comfort ethos, there’s one staple that kicked it all off for me and will forever be my secret style hack—and Zoë Kravitz just wore it.

Kravitz has been out and about in the Big Apple a lot more lately, which is good news for us all because that means endless style inspiration (from both her and beau, Harry Styles). Most recently, she wore a very simple outfit that included all the key staples to have on hand for spring: a crisp white button-down, lightweight trench coat, black booties, a practical tote, and last but not least, flattering black ponte pants that look like elegant trousers, but pretty much feel like sweatpants.
Trust me when I say that stretchy black ponte pants are the best style hack you’ll ever wear. I’ve been relying on it for years, particularly these flare pants from Spanx that my mom and I both swear by for stylish comfort. That said, I’ve since expanded my ponte pants collection—the secret being in the stretchy ponte material that is both flattering in its subtly compressive design but still comfortable thanks to the elastane (a.k.a., stretch). In addition to all the aforementioned benefits, they’re also incredibly versatile, so you can style them however you want and you’ll still look so sleek, which is why I like to deem them my rich-girl pants.
Kravitz and I aren’t the only fans of ponte pants—in the past, Gwyneth Paltrow has also stepped out in a stylish front-seam pair and Oprah even named Spanx’s PerfectFit pants her favorite a few years back, which obviously means she’s also a fan of ponte bottoms. So, if you want to achieve a rich-girl style without a rich-girl budget—or needing to sacrifice any comfort to achieve said goal—shop some Kravitz-inspired styles, below.
