Seven-time tennis Grand Slam champion Venus Williams is set to make her return to clay courts for the first time since the 2021 French Open at Roland Garros, competing at the 2026 Madrid Open in Spain as a wild card entry.
The American veteran will take to the court on Tuesday, 21 April at 16:00 CET looking to snap a difficult run of form, having lost her last nine matches.
On paper, the draw offers a potential opportunity. Williams, currently ranked No. 479 in the world following her return to the women’s tour, will face Spain’s 20-year-old Kaitlin Quevedo, ranked No. 140, in a first round clash between two wild cards.
The match will mark the first meeting between the two players.
This also marks Williams’ sixth tournament of the 2026 season. She was last in action at the Miami Open, where she fell in the opening round to Great Britain’s Francesca Jones, 5-7, 5-7.
