An earthquake of magnitude 4.1 occurred only 14 minutes ago 31 km southeast of Tartagal, Argentina, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
The quake hit at a shallow depth of 10. km beneath the epicenter near Tartagal, Departamento de General José de San Martín, Salta Province, Argentina, in the morning on Wednesday, April 29th, 2026, at 7:04 am local time. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in General Mosconi (pop. 19,800) located 25 km from the epicenter, and Tartagal (pop. 60,800) 31 km away.
