Gemini Intelligence reportedly lands with Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8

Google’s “Gemini Intelligence” updates for Android might arrive on Samsung’s new Galaxy Z Fold 8 and other foldables first, a new report claims.

Seoul Economic Daily reports that Gemini Intelligence will “be commercialized for the first time in the Galaxy series through the Z Fold 8 and Z Flip 8” as a part of One UI 9. In other words, Google is likely to release these features, at least in the first wave, around July-August.

That’s not a huge surprise. Google confirmed Pixel and Samsung Galaxy devices would get Gemini Intelligence starting “this summer,” and the timeline here puts the debut potentially just a few weeks ahead of Google’s Pixel 11 series launching. In theory, though, Samsung’s new foldables could be first in line unless Pixel 10 gets access at the same time (which seems pretty likely).

Google announced this new push alongside Android 17 as what will transition the OS into an “intelligence system.” An initial wave of features will include a new design language when Gemini is working on tasks, improved autofill that leverages your data in other Google apps, Gboard voice-to-text “Rambler” which can make corrections as you speak, and “Create my Widget” for making homescreen widgets using text prompts.

One UI 9 is also expected to launch on Samsung’s new foldables, with the Android 17-based update now available in beta.

Samsung’s Unpacked event for these new foldables is reportedly happening on July 22.
