The Storm Prediction Center said the entire St. Louis region was at one of the highest risks for severe storms on Monday.
ST. LOUIS — Multiple tornado warnings were issued throughout the St. Louis region ahead of the peak severe threat on Monday, according to 5 On Your Side’s Weather Impact Meteorologists.
A Weather Impact Alert was issued for the entire St. Louis region by 5 On Your Side’s Meteorologists, as tornadoes, large hail, and damaging winds are expected Monday afternoon and evening.
The first tornado warning was issued at around 8:30 a.m. Monday morning, hours before the worst of the storms were forecast to hit the region.
Meteorologists confirmed the following tornado touchdowns by radar signature:
A tornado watch for the majority of the area expired at 9 p.m., while a tornado watch for the region’s most eastern Illinois counties was canceled before 11 p.m.
The region’s severe weather threat was upgraded by the national Storm Prediction Center ahead of Monday’s anticipated storms. The Center elevated the region’s risk from a level three to a level four early Monday morning, heightening the expectation of scattered to numerous severe thunderstorms.
“The possibility of damaging wind, very large hail and a few strong tornadoes on Monday afternoon and evening remains a very real concern,” 5 On Your Side Meteorologist Garry Frank said. “Monday is a day to stay weather aware, review your plan and have more than one way to receive warnings. KNOW YOUR SAFE PLACE!”
